FAQ · After launch

How do you transfer a GoHighLevel sub-account to another agency?

The current agency starts the transfer with the new agency's Relationship Number, and the new agency approves it. Contacts and workflows move; Twilio numbers, assigned email domains and Stripe do not. Here is the full checklist.

Key takeaways

  • The current agency starts it; the receiving agency approves it.
  • Contacts, conversations, workflows and LC Phone numbers move with the sub-account.
  • Twilio numbers, agency email domains, Stripe and API keys must be set up again.
  • Ownership terms belong in the contract before the build starts.

How do you transfer a GoHighLevel sub-account to another agency?

The agency that holds the sub-account starts the transfer: at Agency Level, go to Sub-Accounts, open Manage Client for the account, choose Actions, then Transfer Sub-account, and enter the receiving agency's Relationship Number. The receiving agency approves the request by email or on its Sub-Account Transfers page, and the sub-account moves as soon as it is approved.

That is the process in HighLevel's sub-account transfer guide, checked on October 1, 2026. Only the agency owner, or an admin with transfer permission, can start it. If you are the business owner, you ask your current agency to start the transfer and ask the new agency for its Relationship Number.

What moves with the sub-account, and what does not?

Contacts, conversations, workflows, account history and LC Phone numbers move with the sub-account, and eligible A2P texting registration stays with those numbers. Twilio numbers, agency-assigned email domains, Mailgun or SMTP settings, dedicated IPs, Stripe and billing, API keys and agency-level users do not move and must be set up again.

What should you check before you transfer?

Before transferring, list every phone number and where it lives, every sending email domain, every integration and every payment connection in the sub-account. Those are the parts that break quietly after a transfer. Then confirm the receiving agency has room for the account and any compliance add-ons it needs.

  1. Phone numbers: LC Phone numbers move; Twilio numbers do not. If your numbers are on Twilio, plan their move first, or texts and calls stop.
  2. Email: if the sending domain was assigned by the old agency, plan a new one and its SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. See why GoHighLevel emails go to spam.
  3. Payments: Stripe and invoices need reconnecting by the new agency.
  4. Integrations: note every API key, Zapier or n8n connection and webhook; they need re-authorizing.
  5. Users: agency-level users stay behind; sub-account users and their access need checking.
  6. SaaS and add-ons: if the sub-account is on the agency's white-label (SaaS) plan, SaaS mode must be turned off before the transfer, and add-on subscriptions such as WordPress hosting, Yext, WhatsApp or a dedicated IP must be cancelled first, per HighLevel's eject sub-account guide.
  7. Workflows: after the move, test the workflows that send texts and email, before real leads hit them.

Can you leave an agency if it will not transfer your sub-account?

Not through HighLevel's transfer, because only the holding agency can start it. Your options then are to ask in writing, rely on your contract's ownership terms, or export what you can and rebuild in a new account. This is why ownership terms belong in the contract before any build starts.

If you are choosing a new agency at the same time, compare them in the best GoHighLevel agencies in the USA, and see agency account vs sub-account for what sits where. Contacts can be exported, and a snapshot can copy configuration such as pipelines and workflows, but snapshots copy setup, not live contacts or conversation history. Our view on what a contract should say is in who owns the CRM, automations and data.
