HighLevel AI Studio apps now get a built-in database, logins, file storage and payments

Two October 2026 changelog entries add a private backend and a hosted checkout to AI Studio apps. Here is what they do, what to check before real customer data goes in, and when workflows or custom software fit better.

Key takeaways

  • Cloud adds a private database, user accounts and file storage to a project, listed October 9, 2026.
  • Payments adds a hosted checkout for catalog products, listed October 8, 2026, with test and live modes.
  • Both need a TanStack Start app; older React projects must migrate to SSR first.
  • Paid database prices and Payments fees are not listed in the announcement; check HighLevel's current terms.

What did HighLevel add to AI Studio apps in October 2026?

HighLevel's changelog lists two additions for AI Studio apps. AI Studio Cloud, listed on October 9, 2026, gives a project a private database, user accounts and file storage. Payments, listed on October 8, 2026, lets an app sell catalog products through a hosted checkout.

Both entries need an app built on TanStack Start. An existing React project must first go through Project Settings, then Migrate to SSR, which makes an upgraded copy and leaves the original live. Neither changelog page shows a publish date, so the dates here come from HighLevel's dated changelog listing. For the launch itself and its billing, see our earlier page on AI Studio going live for all.

What does AI Studio Cloud do?

Cloud creates a private backend for one AI Studio project in about a minute. It has three parts: a database, user accounts and file storage, so an app can remember records, know who is signed in and keep uploaded files.

PartWhat the changelog says it does
DatabaseShows every table with a rough row count and whether row-level security is on. You can add, edit and delete rows, and ask AI Studio in chat to change the schema. Daily Backups snapshot schema and rows, not storage files or app code.
UsersShows signups on a chart and lets you search by email. You can create a confirmed user with no email, or send an invitation. Email confirmation is required by default. Sign-in is email and password only in this first version.
StoragePublic buckets open for anyone with the link, private buckets for signed-in users. Bucket names are 3 to 63 lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens and cannot be changed later. You can set an upload size limit and review read and write rules.
Security advisorA card on the Overview page lists problems. HighLevel says to fix critical issues before you publish.

You turn it on under More, then Cloud, from Overview. AI Studio checks with you before it builds anything against Cloud.

What does AI Studio Cloud cost?

The entry gives the structure but no dollar figures. Database size starts at Tiny, which is free, and goes up through Mini, Small, Medium, Large and X-Large. The hourly prices for the paid sizes are not listed in the announcement.

What the entry does say about billing:

  • You can change database size once an hour, up or down. A change takes a few minutes and briefly restarts the app.
  • Database storage can grow up to 4 times a day and never shrinks. You pay hourly for the space you set aside, even when paused.
  • File storage grows and shrinks with your files, and you pay for what is stored.
  • If your wallet cannot cover Cloud, it pauses itself. Nothing is deleted, and a Wake up option returns once billing is fixed.
  • The Optimize health check sends a message to chat and uses credits, like any message.

Since the announcement gives no numbers, read the price shown next to each size inside your own account before moving off Tiny.

Can a HighLevel AI Studio app take payments?

Yes. Under More, then Payments, you turn Payments on, switch between test and live mode, and choose which catalog products the app can sell. You then ask the agent to "add payments", approve the connection, and it builds a storefront and checkout into the app.

The entry says Payments uses HighLevel's native payments, so the products, orders, payment providers and subscriptions are the ones already set up in your account. Each product can be sold at one fixed price, a selected set of variations such as sizes, tiers or plans, or the product's full catalog. Only the products and prices you allow can be shown or charged.

What does the AI Studio checkout include?

The checkout is hosted by the platform. Card details are entered and processed there, never in your app's code. It supports PayPal express checkout, coupon codes, subscriptions (including carts with more than one subscription product) and bot protection on every purchase.

  • A fully discounted order goes through without asking for a card.
  • The checkout picks up your site's colour scheme.
  • The payment code is managed by the platform, and edits to it are restored on the next turn.
  • Generated storefronts show product listings and detail pages from your catalog.

One-click post-purchase upsells work with saved cards from Stripe (3D Secure supported), Square, Authorize.net, NMI, Adyen and Mercado Pago. Other payment methods use the regular payment form. An upsell is charged only after the original order is paid, and only once per order. Fees, pricing and limits for Payments are not listed in the announcement.

What could a small business build with it?

The two additions together cover a small app that stores records, logs people in and charges them. That fits a client portal, a members area, a simple booking or request tool, a small online shop for a few products, or a paid download page.

These are our examples of what the features allow, not use cases HighLevel lists. A realistic first project is narrow: one purpose, a handful of tables, a few dozen users. Build it on Tiny, run test orders in test mode, and only then switch to live.

When is AI Studio the right tool, and when is it not?

Use AI Studio when you need a small, single-purpose app and you accept that the platform owns the plumbing. Use plain GoHighLevel workflows when the job is automation on contacts, pipelines and messages. Build custom when the app is core to the business, has complex rules, or must connect to systems HighLevel does not cover.

Update, October 21, 2026: AI Studio projects can now sync with GitHub, and the checkout and chat widget options grew. See HighLevel AI Studio: GitHub sync, checkout controls and chat widgets.

If your need is mostly "when X happens, do Y", start with GoHighLevel automation; an app is the wrong tool for that. If AI Studio is close but needs data from another system, a GoHighLevel API integration can connect it. If the app is the product, or the CRM itself has to fit an unusual process, look at custom CRM development or custom software.

What should you check before using it with real customer data?

Check where the data is stored, what the backups cover, who owns the app and what Payments costs, because the announcements are silent on several of these. Where this page says "check HighLevel's current terms", the source does not answer it.

  • Data location: the entry does not say where the database is hosted. Check HighLevel's current terms.
  • Backups: Daily Backups cover schema and rows only, not storage files or app code. Restoring replaces the live database and pauses database access for a few minutes. Keep your own copies of uploaded files and code.
  • Deleting Cloud: Remove Cloud permanently deletes that project's database, users and files. HighLevel says to export tables as CSV and download files first. Deleting a user cannot be undone either.
  • Sharing and remixing: a shared or remixed project does not copy Cloud data, but the copy can still send requests to the original project's Cloud, following its access rules.
  • Access rules: check row-level security on every table, set private buckets for private files, and fix every critical item the security advisor shows before publishing.
  • Login limits: email and password only for now, and email confirmation is on by default. Auto-confirm is for testing only.
  • Ownership and account: the entries do not say who owns an app if an agency builds it inside a client's account, or what happens when a sub-account moves. Agree this in writing and check HighLevel's current terms.
  • Payments fees and compliance: the announcement lists no fees, limits or compliance statements. Processor fees and any HighLevel charge come from your payment provider and HighLevel's current terms. Card entry happens in the hosted checkout, and the entry makes no compliance claim beyond that.
  • Sensitive data: the entries say nothing about health or other regulated data. Do not assume suitability.

Frequently asked questions

Does GoHighLevel AI Studio have a database?

Yes, once you turn on Cloud for a project. Cloud adds a private database, user accounts and file storage to that one project. It works with apps built on TanStack Start, so an older React project must be migrated to SSR first. Database size starts at the free Tiny size.

Can an AI Studio app accept payments?

Yes. Turn on Payments under More, choose catalog products, test in test mode, then go live. The checkout is hosted by the platform and supports cards, PayPal express checkout, coupons and subscriptions. The announcement does not list any fees or limits, so check HighLevel's current terms and your processor.

Is AI Studio Cloud data backed up?

Daily Backups snapshot your database schema and rows. They do not cover storage files or app code. Restoring a snapshot replaces the live database and pauses database access for a few minutes. Remove Cloud deletes the project's database, users and files for good, so export tables and files first.

How much does AI Studio Cloud cost?

The Tiny database size is free. Mini, Small, Medium, Large and X-Large have hourly prices that appear inside the product, but the dollar amounts are not listed in the announcement. You also pay hourly for reserved database storage, even when paused, and for the file storage you use.
