Is ManyChat free for Instagram?
Yes, with a small cap. ManyChat's Free plan costs $0 and works with Instagram, but it covers only 25 Active Contacts a month, 4 live automations and adds a "Powered by Manychat" message. Most businesses need Essential at $17 or Pro at $39 a month.
We read ManyChat's own help center plan articles on October 30, 2026; every price on this page comes from them and is quoted in US dollars before tax. This page answers the narrower question: what ManyChat itself costs at your volume, and when the free plan is enough.
One date matters. ManyChat introduced a new pricing model on March 2, 2026. Its Free plan article says all Free accounts have been moved to the new Free plan. Paid accounts created before that date may still be on the older Pro pricing until ManyChat migrates them country by country.
What does the ManyChat Free plan include for Instagram?
The Free plan includes 25 Active Contacts a month, 1 user, 1 Inbox seat, up to 2 channels such as Instagram and TikTok, and up to 4 live automations. Every first message carries a "Powered by Manychat" branding message.
ManyChat Free plan limits
Those 4 automations can be the usual Instagram starters. ManyChat's Free plan article lists replying when someone comments on a post or reel, a welcome message to new followers, replies to story responses, and answers to common DMs. WhatsApp, SMS and Email are not available on Free.

One reel that asks people to comment a keyword can pass 25 people in an hour. That is why we treat Free as a test account. It is fine for checking a flow works before you pay for it.
How much does ManyChat cost per month?
At the time of writing, ManyChat costs $17 (Essential), $39 (Pro), $99 (Business) or $199 (Advanced) a month on monthly billing. Annual billing lowers those to $14, $29, $69 and $139 a month, charged upfront for the year.

Extra Inbox seats on Pro, Business and Advanced cost $25 each. Essential and Pro include a 14-day free trial; Business and Advanced do not. One inconsistency to know: the Advanced plan article lists a $0.004 overage, while the Active Contacts article says Advanced has custom overage pricing. Ask ManyChat before you budget on it.
What separates the tiers for an Instagram business is not only volume. Essential adds email and phone capture, tags and Google Sheets sync. Pro is the first tier that lists AI-powered automation, CRM and commerce integrations, WhatsApp and access to the ManyChat API. If leads must land in a CRM, Pro is the realistic floor.
What counts as an Active Contact on Instagram?
An Active Contact is a person who interacts with your account through a ManyChat automation during your billing month: someone who sends a DM, comments on a post, replies to a story or engages with a flow. Each person counts once a month.
ManyChat's Active Contacts article makes four points that change the bill:
- Followers do not count. Your follower count is not your Active Contact count. Only people who interact through ManyChat in the month count.
- Repeat messages do not add up. One person messaging ten times in a month is one Active Contact.
- The count resets every billing cycle, even on annual plans, and overage is billed monthly.
- Imported contacts count only if they get messages through an automation, ManyChat AI, a broadcast or live chat that month.
Someone who reaches you on both Instagram and TikTok may count twice, unless ManyChat can match them by the same phone number or email.
Which ManyChat plan is cheapest at my volume?
On monthly billing, Free fits up to 25 people a month, Essential to about 470, Pro to about 3,700, Business to about 11,500, and Advanced above that. Overage on the smaller plan becomes dearer than the next plan at those points.

The crossover points come from setting two plans equal. Essential and Pro meet at about 470 contacts on monthly billing ($17 + $0.10 per contact over 250 = $39). Pro and Business meet at 3,700 ($39 + $0.05 per contact over 2,500 = $99). Business and Advanced meet at 11,500. On annual billing the points are about 438, 3,553 and 11,389.
Assumptions, labelled. One Instagram account in one ManyChat account (ManyChat bills each account separately). No extra Inbox seats. Prices before tax. Volumes are distinct people a month, not messages. If your plan is on the pre-March 2026 pricing, these figures do not apply; check Settings, Billing in your account.
Can you stop ManyChat charging overage after a viral post?
Yes. In Settings, Billing, Subscription you can set a contact limit that caps how many extra Active Contacts you will pay for. Once you hit it, automations keep running only for people already active that month.
Without a cap, ManyChat keeps your automations running past the plan limit and adds the overage to the next bill. It sends notices at 70%, 90% and 100% of the limit. If an account grows well past the plan maximum without upgrading, the Active Contacts article says automations may eventually pause.
The cap is a trade. New people who comment after the cap get no DM, which is exactly the traffic a viral post brings. For a launch or a paid campaign we raise the cap for that month rather than leave it on the default.
Is ManyChat AI free on Instagram?
No. ManyChat AI needs a paid plan. On the current pricing, Pro is the first plan that lists AI-powered automation, and ManyChat's AI help article says AI Replies, AI Comments and AI Goals work on Instagram only, as a beta.
ManyChat's older AI article still refers to a separate "Manychat AI add-on", so the AI line on your bill depends on whether your account is on the new or the old pricing. Check the plan page in your account before you switch AI on. The AI answers from a Knowledge library you fill with text entries of up to 250,000 characters or single web pages; it reads only the exact page you link.

What else do you pay for besides ManyChat?
Usually a CRM, any extra Inbox seats, and the setup work. ManyChat does not replace a CRM for most businesses, so leads are synced to one. Our build price for a small system is about $1,000 at the time of writing.
- CRM. ManyChat stores contacts and tags, but pipelines, calendars and reporting usually live in a CRM such as the ones we set up in our GoHighLevel CRM service, or one you already use, connected through n8n or a native integration. - Seats. $25 per extra Inbox seat on Pro and above.
- Build and upkeep. The strategy call and audit are free. A small build of two or three flows plus the CRM sync is about $1,000; larger systems are quoted at a fixed price. Is ManyChat free forever?
The Free plan has no end date and costs $0, so you can keep it as long as you stay within 25 Active Contacts a month, 4 live automations and 2 channels. The trade-offs are the "Powered by Manychat" message and no integrations. Paid trials on Essential and Pro last 14 days, then bill automatically unless you cancel.
Did ManyChat's free plan used to include 1,000 contacts?
Yes. ManyChat's billing FAQ still describes the older Free plan, with a 1,000 contact limit and three custom keyword triggers. ManyChat replaced it with the new model on March 2, 2026, and its Free plan article says all Free accounts have already been moved to the new 25 Active Contact plan. Guides that quote 1,000 contacts are out of date.
Does ManyChat charge per Instagram message?
No. ManyChat charges per Active Contact a month, not per message. One person who exchanges twenty messages with your flows in a month counts once. Message volume matters only for Meta's own rate limits, such as 750 private replies an hour per account in Meta's Instagram Platform overview, which no ManyChat plan raises.
Is ManyChat cheaper with annual billing?
Yes. Annual billing costs $14 a month for Essential (18% less), $29 for Pro (25% less), $69 for Business and $139 for Advanced (30% less), charged upfront for the year. Overage is also cheaper on annual plans. You can move from monthly to annual at any time, but not back until the annual term ends.
Can I use one ManyChat plan for several Instagram accounts?
Each ManyChat account has its own plan, Active Contact limit and bill, so two Instagram businesses in two ManyChat accounts pay twice. Within one account, the plan's channel limit applies: 2 channels on Free and Essential, 3 on Pro, unlimited on Business and Advanced. Agencies usually run one ManyChat account per client.
Is the ManyChat Inbox product the same as Inbox seats?
No. Inbox seats are included in the plans above. Manychat Inbox is a separate product, starting at $99 with 3 seats and $39 per extra seat, per ManyChat's Inbox pricing article. It is aimed at larger support teams. Most businesses running Instagram automation never need it on top of Pro or Business.
