What is a WhatsApp limited time offer template?
It is a Marketing template that shows an offer code with a live countdown inside the customer's WhatsApp chat. Meta draws the timer, the code copies with one tap, and a link button goes to the offer. HighLevel added this template type on October 15, 2026.
The HighLevel entry is Limited time offer templates for WhatsApp, first published October 15, 2026. Meta's developer reference for limited-time offer templates describes the same format: templates that "display expiration dates and running countdown timers for offer codes."
The useful part for a business is that the expiry is set when you send, not when you build. One approved template can run a new promotion each week without going back to Meta for approval.
How do I create a limited time offer template in GoHighLevel?
Go to Settings, then WhatsApp, then Templates, and click Create template. Set the category to Marketing and the type to Limited time offer, add the offer heading, image, body, discount code and link, then submit it to Meta. You choose the expiry each time you send.
- Open Settings → WhatsApp → Templates → Create template.
- Set Category to Marketing and Type to Limited time offer.
- Add the offer heading, an image header, the body text (variables are allowed), the discount code and the URL.
- Submit for Meta approval.
- When you send, set the expiry for that campaign.
HighLevel says you can send it from Conversations, bulk actions, workflows and calendar sends, and that its AI template writer can draft one, including the heading, expiry, code and image.
What are the limits on a WhatsApp limited time offer template?
The offer text can be 16 characters, the code 15 characters, the body 600 characters and the button label 25 characters. Only Marketing templates are allowed, footers are not supported, and people on WhatsApp Web or desktop see a "not supported" message instead of the offer.
What goes into a limited time offer template
We put HighLevel's entry and Meta's reference side by side, because neither one lists everything a builder needs to know:
| Rule | What it says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Marketing only | Meta and HighLevel |
| Offer text (heading) | 16 characters maximum | Meta |
| Body | 600 characters maximum, variables allowed | Meta |
| Offer code | 15 characters maximum | Meta |
| URL button label | 25 characters maximum; URL up to 2,000 characters with one variable | Meta |
| Header | Optional; image or video | Meta |
| Footer | Not supported | Meta |
| Buttons | Copy code and URL; HighLevel says both are required and cannot be removed | HighLevel |
| Countdown text | Fixed text, not customizable; turns red in the final hour | Meta and HighLevel |
| WhatsApp Web and desktop | Offer is not shown; recipient sees a "not supported" message | Meta |
| Past expiry at send | Meta still accepts it; the chat shows the offer as expired | HighLevel |
Sources: HighLevel changelog (October 15, 2026) and Meta's limited-time offer template reference, both read on October 16, 2026. Meta's page shows no last-updated date. One difference: Meta's sending notes describe a layout where the copy code button is absent, while HighLevel says both buttons are required. Build to HighLevel's rule, since that is the builder you are using.
What should I check before a bulk send?
Check the expiry date and time zone, keep the heading under 16 characters, and send a test to a phone. HighLevel warns that a past expiry is still accepted by Meta, so a bulk send with the wrong date reaches everyone as an already expired offer.
- Expiry: confirm the date and the hour, in the time zone your customers are in. A Friday noon deadline set in the wrong zone can expire before people wake up.
- Consent: this is a Marketing template, so send it only to contacts who agreed to marketing messages on WhatsApp. GoHighLevel keeps opt-outs per channel; see what happens when a contact replies STOP.
- Desktop users: some recipients read WhatsApp on a computer and will not see the offer. Put the code and the deadline in the body text too.
- Test: send to a test contact on a phone, tap the copy button and the link, and check the landing page shows the same code.
- Stop the follow-up: if a workflow sends a reminder before the deadline, end it for contacts who already bought. Our follow-up that converts page shows how we set exit conditions.
Which businesses can use countdown offers well?
Businesses with empty slots to fill on a deadline get the most from it: salons and med spas with open appointments, gyms with a monthly joining offer, and stores recovering abandoned carts. HighLevel's own examples are a salon, an online store, a gym and a travel agency.
For the service businesses we build for, the pattern that fits is a last-minute opening. A cancellation frees a slot, a workflow sends the offer to contacts tagged for that service, and the code expires before the slot does. Pair it with a no-show reduction flow so the filled slot gets its own reminders. The GoHighLevel automation page explains how we build and test flows like this. The dental clinic case study shows WhatsApp used alongside SMS and email in a live account.
The countdown makes the deadline visible. It does not make an offer worth taking, and sending these too often trains customers to wait for the next code.
What is still unknown?
HighLevel does not say what each send costs or whether the template works in every country. Meta's reference lists no general country limit; its only regional note concerns payment buttons for businesses in Brazil.
Neither page gives a price, but Meta publishes marketing rates by country: see WhatsApp message prices by country. HighLevel also told agencies on October 19 to move marketing sends to MM Lite; see the deadline notice.
- Cost: Marketing templates are billed by Meta at marketing rates. Neither page gives a price for this type.
- Reporting: HighLevel does not say whether copy-code taps are tracked. Link clicks can be tracked by adding UTM tags to the URL.
The same day HighLevel rebuilt the template builder and added per-contact media. See the GoHighLevel WhatsApp template builder update.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a new WhatsApp template for every promotion?
No. The limited time offer template defines the layout, and you set the expiry each time you send it. One approved template can run many campaigns. You would need a new template, and a new Meta approval, only if you change the template itself, such as its body text or offer heading.
What happens if I send a WhatsApp offer with an expiry that has passed?
HighLevel says Meta still accepts the message, and the customer's chat shows the offer as already expired. Nothing blocks the send, so a wrong date in a bulk action reaches every contact. Check the expiry date, hour and time zone before you send to a list.
Why can't some customers see my WhatsApp offer?
Meta says recipients on WhatsApp Web or the desktop app do not see the limited time offer. They see a message saying the offer is not supported. Repeat the code and the deadline in the body text so those customers can still use it, or follow up by another channel.
Can I change the countdown wording or color?
No. Meta's reference says the timer is a text string that cannot be customized, and that it turns red when the offer expires within the next hour. The parts you control are the offer heading (16 characters), the image, the body, the code and the link.
